Promoting Creativity – Joyce Chng

And now for my favorite time of the month! We’re back again with Promoting Creativity, and today I have the great pleasure of interview  writer Joyce Chng! I hope you all enjoy reading this, and that you all visit her Patreon, twitter or one of the other links below.

1) Tell us a little bit about what you do.

I am a writer and author of science fiction and fantasy. I also write YA and poetry infused with a bit of science fiction and fantasy. Lately, I have been writing for games and RPGs.

I am the editor-in-chief of Umbel & Panicle, an online literary magazine for poetry and art inspired by plants and botany.

2) When and why did you start writing?

I started writing when I was a child, but I didn’t really submit my work until I was in my early twenties. The form rejections I got were printed out on paper! I first started with fanfiction (by then, I didn’t know it was fanfiction since the Internet wasn’t around and I didn’t hang around with fan circles).

I started writing because I wanted to write. Writing is like breathing to me. I can do a lot of things when I write. Writing is my salve, my sanctuary, my refuge. I am an only child. So writing became a safety valve for me too where I could retreat into my worlds for a brief moment.

3) Tell us about a project that you are currently working on that has you really excited.

I have two.

One is a YA sword fantasy that actually got an offer from an editor… but that’s a secret.

The second one is a pitch/sample I am writing to send to a shared-world/IP I have always wanted to write for.

4) What are some of your goals for the future?

Goals? I have to write my YA fantasy, edit my space opera books, write that RPG I’d pitched to a games publisher.

Also, maintain my diet, stay healthy and exercise. Spend more time with my family.

5) How can we support you
