Promoting Creativity – Anna Cantrell

Party in honor of Blaine Cornelius

1) Tell us a little bit about what you do.
I’m a freelance illustrator making whimsical, nature filled pictures in watercolor and pencil.

2) When and why did you start drawing?
I’ve been using watercolor actively since about 2014 and drawing as long as I can remember to be honest. Making pictures has always been a way for me (and anyone who’s also needing some escapism) to connect with, express, and escape into my imaginary worlds.

3) Tell us about a project that you are currently working on that has you really excited.
While I’ve done many smaller commissions and projects with others I’m super excited to currently be in the process of finishing my first larger book project with writer Margaret Simon. It’s a children’s poetry book based around Louisiana’s cultural and natural characteristics. I’m also working towards building a story of my own to hopefully soon build into a lovely, proper tale with beginnings, middles, and ends.
4) What are some of your goals for the future?
To tell emotion filled stories that inspire, comfort, or are just there for people when they need them. To make picture books for sure!

5) How can we support you?
You can follow me on Instagram @jarofpencils where I’m most active or visit any of the following links to support me directly by purchasing my work and stories in the forms they take so far!
Thank you to Anna for joining me this month, and I hope you all visit her lovely shop. I’ve gotten one of her paintings this last Christmas for my sister and it was a fantastic gift!
