Goodreads Synopsis: A surprisingly honest and touching account of a trans girl surviving through sex work in Seattle. With excerpts published in Eisner nominated anthology ISLAND, the full colour volume, drawn and painted by Remy Boydell is an unflinching debut graphic novel.
I picked up this comic at random at one of the local comic book stores, and I’m so glad I was drawn to it!
The Pervert is an enlightening and heartbreaking comic. It deals honestly with what it’s like to be a trans sex worker, a story I had never had the chance to hear much about until now. From the art, to the story, each part of this comic is beautifully crafted. I was drawn in by the unique style right away, and I couldn’t put the comic down until I finished.
This is not a long graphic novel, it’s 160 pages. The writing style is concise and doesn’t mess around. The main character is struggling to live from day to day, and there are times when this comic is hard to read. There are sex scenes depicted, obviously but in case you were wondering now you know.
I recommend The Pervert to everyone, and I gave it four stars on Goodreads.
