Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is about what books you’d like to find under the Christmas tree. I don’t think I’m getting books this year so I decided to just change the topic to books I think would make great gifts for any occasion. Hope you all enjoy!
1. Other Minds by Peter Godfrey-Smith
I don’t read many science books, but this is probably the best I’ve read yet. I learned so much and it was so engaging throughout all of it. So if you have any science loving friends, this might be a good book to give them.
2. Practical Magic by Nikki Van De Car
Wicca has become a lot more popular in the last few years, so if you have any friends who have been dabbling, or who are interested in learning more this book is the gift! It’s easy to read and full of all the beginning knowledge that you need.
3. Protector of the Small by Tamora Pierce
Know any teens/tweens who love fantasy, but want a book about a girl? This is the series to get them! Kel is a fantastic character, strong, brave and constantly kicking the patriarchy’s ass.
4. Thug Kitchen
For foodies and new cooks alike, this is probably the best cookbook you could gift a person. It’s yummy, it’s straightforward and doesn’t bullshit. It’s also funny as hell.
5. Dear Ijeawele, Or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
I think anyone with children, or who plans on having children should read this short feminist work. Know anyone with a birthday coming up and whose having a baby? Maybe this book can be a gift for them!
6. The Self-Sufficient Life and How to Live It by John Seymour
I know so many people who have the dream of living communally and off the grid and self-sufficient, and I wish I could get them this book because it has everything. Seriously if I don’t have it by then, when the apocalypse happens I’m breaking into the nearest library or bookstore to get this book.
7. Open Earth by Sarah Mirk
This comic is short and cute and the perfect gift for any polyamours comic loving friend. There’s really not much polyam reps in stories and I thought this story did particularly well.
8. Petra by Marianna Coppo
This is my favorite kid’s lit read from the year. It’s such a cute story with beautiful art to go along. It’s also not a book that would get super repetitive if you had to read it to a toddler twelve times in one day. 😉 Makes for a great first book for a little kiddo.
9. Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann
This book is perfect for anyone who loves YA. It is so irresistibly adorable and sweet and it makes you fall in love with love again. Not to mention the main character is asexual! Gift this book to your YA loving friends!
10. Four Season Harvest by Eliot Coleman
This book would make a great gift for your gardening friends and family. I know a lot of people who put in gardens in spring, but once fall comes to an end so does their garden, this book teaches you all about how to get more fresh veggies all year round!
What books do you think would make great gifts? Did you get any books this year for the holiday season? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to leave a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post!
