Top Ten Tuesday – Best And Worst Book Adaptions

TTT-NEW (1)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today’s topic is book adaptions, so I wanted to talk about  book to movie or tv shows adaptions. The first five examples are some of my favorite book adaptions, some of the best in my opinion. And the second five are some of my least favorite adaptions, fair warning though my opinions on these might be a bit controversial. Hope you enjoy!

1. Pride and Prejudice & the 1995 TV Movie.

I’ve been reading and watching this series since I was just barely in high school, I loved them both and it’s honestly one of the best Jane Austen adaptions I’ve ever seen. Nothing can compare, and honestly people should stop trying to adapt it again. 😀

2. Game of Thrones & TV Show.

I know a lot of people are frustrated with the most recent season, but I had been enjoying it until the most recent episode. And as a whole the tv show is a great adaption. Hopefully someday the rest of the books get published, but I’m not holding my breath.

3. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy & Movies.

I read The Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time when I was 10 years old, and then watched the movies soon after. This will forever remain my favorite movie series, I just have so many childhood memories of them.

4. A Series of Unfortunate Events & Tv Show.

When I first heard that this book series was going to be adapted I was honestly scared for it. I don’t trust adaptions as a general rule. But this series. This series was AMAZING.  Everything was perfect, the casting, the sets, the whole idea behind the series. It was all there and so well done.

5. Emma & 2009 Tv Show.

This is by far the best adaption of Emma, and I’ve seen several. All the other versions I’ve seen don’t seem to portray Emma herself quite the way I think she is in the book. Also, Johnny Lee Miller is a fantastic actor.

6. The Hobbit & Movie Trilogy.

This probably surprises no one, as no one really liked the films. While the first one started off the trilogy in the right vein, the second was bad and the third film was utter shit. I was so disappointed.

7. The Phantom of The Opera & 2004 Film.

UGH. I hate this movie. The singing, the filming, everything about it was badly done. If you haven’t seen it just don’t, watch instead the version filmed at the Royal Albert Hall. The Phantom is played by Ramin Karimloo and his voice is divine.

8. Howl’s Moving Castle & The Miyazaki Adaption.

This might possibly the most controversial opinion on this post, though i’m sure people will be surprised by the 7th too. 😀
While I did enjoy Miyazaki’s film, it sucks as an adaption. They are two different stories and honestly shouldn’t have the same name.

9. Sherlock Holms & The BBC TV Series.

I take it back, this is the opinion people will give me the most flack for lol.  I’ll be honest I did enjoy the first two seasons of this show, but after that I started to realize it was a bad adaption and just badly written in general.  Moffat took the idea of Sherlock and then threw out the original stories completely. I saw a youtube video about this that summed up my feelings the best, if anyone wants the link let me know.

10. Ender’s Game & Movie.

This will probably surprise no one, I know a lot of people were upset with this adaption. When I first heard they were making the film I was excited to see Asa Butterfield taking the main role, he’s a fantastic actor. But sadly the story was full of holes as they focused more on cool graphics and space scenes than the actual story.

What are your thoughts on these adaptions? What are your favorite adaptions? Don’t forget to leave a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post. 🙂
