Weekend Cooking is a weekend blog meme hosted by Beth Fish Reads. Last week I wrote about the books I had received over the holidays, titled Bread Illustrated today I’m sharing about the bread I’ve been making since then!
The first recipe I tried was for this Challah loaf, which I used for some burgers I made earlier in the week. I made another Bob’s burger recipe and the combination was truly delightful. The braiding of the bread was the hardest part for me, it’s been awhile since I’ve done braids for anyone. 😀
The second loaf I tried was the book’s sourdough recipe. This is one of those all-night loafs, and in the end I was pretty darn happy with it. It didn’t rise as much as I’d hoped, but it certainly did better than my previous attempts with different recipes. Plus it looked beautiful.
And then last night I made monkey bread. I didn’t have the right pan for them so I just used my biggest pie pan. Still they tasted super yummy and we had them for dessert and again the next morning for breakfast. I’m spoiling my partners before we finish winter break and all go back to the real world.
I am very pleased with Bread Illustrated. All of the pictures are great to references and each recipe I’ve used has turned out really good. Next I hope to try out their recipes for flour tortillas and bagels.
