In true panster fashion I did not come up with an idea for NaNoWriMo till just today. 2020 has been a fucking hell of a year and I was having the hardest time coming up with a new plot idea, but today I finally focused and figured out a plan. This year I am going to be rewriting an old story. In fact it will be 7 years old this November! I originally started it waaaayyy back in 2013.
Now I know we’re not technically supposed to do this, BUTTTT I am scraping 98% of what I already have on this story. I will mostly be writing this from the bones up and finally getting a clearer idea of what the plot is. So I don’t feel too bad, this story is basically going to be new and I would be surprised if I used even 1,000 words from the old story. And obviously I won’t be counting those words as part of the 50,000 that I will be writing next month.
So! Yes! What am I writing? None other than The Merry Picnickers of St. Petersburg. I decided to go with this novel for several reasons. Firstly because I had already been considering rewriting it. Secondly because its in the whimsical absurdist genre that I love, and that will keep me in the mindset to continue This Isn’t Where We Hide Our Ghosts. Right now the story has only a very simple plot description, but it’s going to be a fun story. It will follow a young boy as he documents his childhood being raised by a group of hedonists and scientists, who are conducting an experiment on him to see what kind of man he will grow up to be. Will he choose pleasure? Or reason and logic?
I can’t wait to start sharing more about this project as NaNoWriMo progresses. Be on the lookout for snippets!
