May Reading Wrap Up

And like the rest of this year, May has gone by in a flurry. Leaving me 24 weeks pregnant with a list of books almost as tall as I am (5’4 in case you’re wondering) and not enough time to read them. Though I am happy to say my reading is continuing to go up! This month I read a total of 11 books, which is almost at pre-pandemic me rate. I’m still 10 books behind my goal for the year but I’ve been reading some really good books, as you can tell by the fact that I only have 1 two star book and a lot of 4-5 star books! Anyway, hope you enjoy.

2 Stars: Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering by Dr. Sarah J. Buckley

Honestly this was a surprise to me, I thought a book like this would be right up my alley. Alas it was too kooky and hippy for me. An odd thing to say about a book written by a doctor. But between the weird beliefs about ultrasounds and the almost fetishization of birth I decided to call it quits.

3 Stars: 3 books total

These were all pretty good books, but lacking in just one or two ways. I’ve not written reviews for any of them yet, but it’s hard to keep on top of reviews these days. Honestly I’m thinking about only reviewing All The Rage.

4 Stars: 4 books total

These numbers are all very satisfying to me. 😀 I’ve read Plath’s The Colossus before, but it was good to read her collection again while I was reading about her biography. And as you already know I just recently reviewed Of Woman Born.

5 Stars: 3 books total

And last but not least, some of the best books I’ve read all year! Wow do I recommend them. You can find my reviews for them here, here and here. Amazing books!

What did you read this month? If you enjoyed my post please consider checking out some others! I review books, film, as well as have some cooking posts under the tag “weekend cooking”. I write about queerness, polyamory, pregnancy and my normal life as well. You could also consider tipping me through Ko-Fi, which is basically the same as buying me a coffee! I also have a patreon where I share exclusive poetic and writing content. Thank you for reading.
