I know it’s a little later than mid-year now, but I thought this would be a fun post to start the week out with. Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag is a fun tag that was started by youtuber Chami. I was not tagged in this, nor will I be tagging anyone, but if you want to do it leave your Mid-Year post in the comments, I’d love to see your answers. It’s funny because this tag is definitly geared more towards YA readers, which I haven’t read much of this year! So my answers may be a little bit different.
Best Book You’ve Read So Far – Why Did No One Tell Me This? By Natalia Hailes & Ash Spivak
I really wish I had found this book at the beginning of my pregnancy, because it was really awesome and has a lot of information on how to check in with yourself, trust your intuition and much more. Best of all it was queer friendly and used gender neutral pronouns! Which is a first for a pregnancy book. It’s going to be the first book I buy when I decided to have kiddo number 2.
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far
I actually haven’t read any good sequels this year! I just finished the sequel to Annihilation and it was super boring. Fingers crossed for the second Mistborn book.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To – Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder
I just found out about this book and it sounds like something I’d really enjoy.
Most Anticipated Release For The Second Part Of The Year – The Teller of Secrets by Bisi Adjapon
I don’t know if this is my most anticipated, but it does sound like a really damn good book and it’s coming out this fall.
Biggest Disappointment So Far – Authority by Jeff Vandermeer
After the thrilling read that Annihilation was this book was a huge disappointment. The story was slow and the main character unlikable. I was super disappointed.
Biggest Surprise – Of Woman Born by Adrienne Rich
This book was something I picked up because it seemed like something I needed to read, and I was totally right! It really came to me in a time of need. I even wrote a review for it.
Favorite New Author – Darconville’s Cat by Alexander Theroux
This was a book I picked up because I saw a friend reading it, and despite it seeming like it not be a book I’d enjoy I really did like it and now I’m interested in reading more by Theroux.
Newest Fictional Crush/ Newest Favorite Character – Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters
I combined these two because they have the same answer for me. The character that captured me the most this year is Nan King. I just love historical fiction and I thought that Nan was a really smart and strong character.
Books That Made You Cry – Forget Having It All by Amy Westervelt
I don’t think I actually cried reading this book, but its one book that did give me intense emotions.
Book That Made You Happy – Just Kids by Patti Smith
This book always makes me happy, in fact I love it so much I’ve read it four times.
The Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year (or received) – The Mushroom Fan Club by Elise Gravel
I don’t think this is the most beautiful, but it’s definitly the cutest book I’ve read this year. Highly recommend.
What Book Do You Need To Read By The End Of The Year – Polysecure by Jessica Fern
There are a lot of books I need to read by the end of the year, but I had to pick one and for whatever reason this book came to mind.
Favorite Book To Movie Adaption You’ve Seen This Year
None. Book to move adaptations suck.
If you enjoyed my post please consider checking out some others! I review books, film, as well as have some cooking posts under the tag “weekend cooking”. I write about queerness, polyamory, pregnancy and my normal life as well. You could also consider tipping me through Ko-Fi, which is basically the same as buying me a coffee! I’m not able to have a baby shower but I do have a registry with amazon. I have a patreon where I share exclusive poetic and writing content. Thank you for reading.
